BCBibleStudy is a men’s small group that meets weekly at a local address in Hoover, AL – typically on Wednesday nights from 6:45p to 8p. We also provide a zoom link for those who wish to partake from around the country.
Our study material is often from the works and studies of Dr. Michael Heiser. Our theology base generally follows what has become known as the Divine Council Worldview (DCW) which has many sources online including a very active FaceBook page – DIVINE COUNCIL WORLDVIEW – Bible Discussion Group.
In the spring of 2024, we started by going through Heiser’s book Supernatural. In the summer, we took a dive through The Screwtape Letters in a short mini semester. By the fall, we were ready for a DCW analysis of Jude and James.
The members of BCBibleStudy primarily enjoy deep Christian study with meaty content. Many of us also enjoy a healthy pour of bourbon and a fresh cigar to go along with our teaching with robust conversation.
The main idea for such a study like this came from the Cigars and More cigar shop on Birmingham’s highway 280 where a local group of men would light up and pour up forming a small group to discuss the previous week’s sermon from Church Of The Highlands. While this group was in existence, I noticed how it really served as a man cave need in men where we could huddle and speak openly and confidently about deep spiritual content.
A secondary idea came from a real church that meets every Sunday morning at the infamous Flora-Bama lounge. Interestingly, while worship is going on – many gather on the fringe with a cigarette and a BudLite discovering God perhaps in a new way or rediscovering God in a somewhat unexpected place.
